Year One and Year Two
Welcome to our Hockney Class page!
English
In English, we will be reading the story of The Legends of King Arthur. We will be following Arthur’s adventures and writing about them using nouns, verbs, adjectives, compound sentences and Year 2 learning how to use subordination to form a complex sentence. We will be writing character and setting descriptions, narratives using the 3rd person and rewriting a legend.
Maths
In Maths, we will be learning how to measure length and height, how to use statistics to create tally and bar charts and then we will be learning how to use money, tell the time and use basic fractions. We will also continue our learning of the x2, x5, x10, x3 and x4 tables.
Science
In Science, we will continue to learn about what plants needs to grow healthily, exploring the UK tress and plants, as well as observing plant growth from a seed. We will then be learning about electricity. What it is used for, how it is created, the dangers, as well as transferring electricity using simple circuits.
History
In History, we will be learning about ‘Powerful Voices’ and those important people who have made a difference in our World. We will discussing the effects they have had on the world and the positive changes they have made to the our lives today.
Computing
In Computing, we will be learning how to use Beebot robots and using programs on the laptops. They will identify what each floor robot command does and use that knowledge to start predicting the outcome of programs.
Art
In Art, we will be learning about murals and tapestries. We will look in to famous artists and the differences they have to create their artwork. We will be making a class mural of underwater life using paints, materials, crayons and chalks.
RE
We will be continuing our learning of ‘How Do People Welcome a New Person into their Community?’ We will be learning about Christians dedicating their lives to God by becoming monks or nuns and looking at the special ceremonies that take place to do this. We will also be looking at the Muslim ceremonies of people who are not born Muslim, but want to become a Muslim.
DT
In DT, we will be continuing our learning of how to make a moving picture. We will be creating our own moving pictures using sliders, axis and different materials.
